FLOWER: Hana Kimura MyStar Stardom Photobook Review

Starting in late 2018, Stardom began a new photobook series called MyStar with their top wrestlers getting their own smaller photobook all to themselves. Hana Kimura was the ninth to be featured in the series, following Mayu Iwatani, Starlight Kid, Hazuki, Jungle Kyona, Momo Watanabe, Utami Hayashishita, Arisa Hoshiki, and Saki Kashima. FLOWER: Hana Kimura was released in June 2019. You can read reviews for all the MyStar Series photobooks released so far on the Joshi Photobook Reviews page.

As mentioned above, these are smaller (and cheaper) photobooks than Stardom usually puts out, however that does not mean the quality of the photobook is negatively impacted. Stardom at this point has become almost as good at producing photobooks as they are at producing wrestling shows, and the effort put into this photobook shows this. Even though the photobook features a single wrestler, there are still multiple scenes/scenarios presented that fit the personality of the wrestler so its not just random scenes chosen at the whim of the photographer.

Hana Kimura’s photobook sold out in record time, to no one’s surprise as she is one of the most popular wrestlers in Stardom. FLOWER is different than the other photobooks in the MyStar series, as it more closely resembles Kairi Hojo’s BON VOYAGE photobooks in the presentation. There are no wrestling-related photos here and nothing in her ring gear, as they focus on casual (and less than casual) attires. The photoshoot took place in Macau, giving the book different scenery than the other books, providing Hana an easy excuse to offer different looks than the wrestlers that came before her. FLOWER is the most sensual photobook in the series by a significant margin, which I am sure her legion of fans will enjoy. Hana is incredibly photogenic and all the pictures feel authentic, regardless of the scenario. This is a must-own for any fans of Hana Kimura, if you can find it.
